For me, FB is mostly for personal life (extended family, church) and I have mixed feelings about it and am always on the verge of deleting my account! I really love Instagram. It is so simple and quick and is like a little visual diary. I really enjoy reading blogs and connecting with all kinds of quilters. It's hard to achieve a balance though and I'm real conscious of needing to limit my time online... before the day gets away!Cynthia@wabi-sabi-quiltshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03409769915035855136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1438079864390886446.post-14552098650784837492017-05-24T15:06:30.080-07:002017-05-24T15:06:30.080-07:00interesting to read all the comments and impressed...interesting to read all the comments and impressed that so many took time to write something........
most interesting to read the ones that do several platforms and mostly still love blogging.........
hang in here girlfriend cause if you leave I won't be following.........lolChookyblue......https://www.blogger.com/profile/03673183082274488600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1438079864390886446.post-3394875571955253682017-05-20T10:08:57.951-07:002017-05-20T10:08:57.951-07:00Wendy: I am a Bloglovin Junkie!!! I had to laugh when you wrote: "...it takes me hours because just when I see something I like, whoosh, it’s gone and I spend way too long looking for it again..."; I had JUST told my husband this exact same thing! I have a love/hate relationship with FB! I enjoy all my friends' family, vacation, etc. posts. I love all the quilt groups' sharing, it's the JUNK I don't care for! I spend waaaaaayyyyyy too much time on FB! Back to Blog Land... I so enjoy following your blog, even though I don't comment very often. I am posting this time, because I would love to win that adorable mini quilt! Thank you for the chance to win and for all the sharing you do on your blog! Lots of comments to read through here.

I much prefer blogs to any other method of connecting on the internet. I like reading posts that detail the background, thoughts, and the decision-making process of other quilters (and other bloggers I follow) as opposed to the quick sentence on facebook and Instagram. Sometimes bloggers just want the quick comment but other times a back-and-forth conversation begins via email, and I like that, too. At times it's hard to keep up with reading and commenting on all the blogs I love, not to mention responding to comments on my blog. Don't get me wrong: I love that part of blogging but it does take time.

I have a facebook account (which I only recently began using to get Cheri Payne's patterns for the Baskets of Plenty sew along) and am on pinterest but only to save images, not to search, and I follow blogs on feedly and/or bloglovin.

For me, being online can be a time sapper/waster, especially if I'm a little tired and am indecisive about whatever I'm working on. It's easier to read and look than be up and doing when I'm tired.

Thanks for starting this conversation. I'm a family history blogger, too, and this has been a topic in that community of bloggers where there has been a great shift from blogging to facebook. Sometimes I wonder if it's the younger generation heading in that direction because it's so immediate with a broad readership. Post a question to a group and with 10 minutes 24 people have responded. I don't know. I think in any group/community there will be some die-hard bloggers and some who move away from blogging toward something speedier.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12136584654825212359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1438079864390886446.post-67796656096652492182017-05-16T05:53:39.967-07:002017-05-16T05:53:39.967-07:00I only read blogs! I like reading the stories behind the projects and I feel like I get to know the bloggers that I follow even though I've never met them. I rarely look at Facebook but every morning when I check my blogs I check Instagram too. I post there as well - it's instant gratification to get 50, 80, 100 likes in just a few hours compared to 6-8 comments for the same pictures in a blogpost. Definitely I like blogging better than Instagram but most of all I love connecting with other likeminded quilter's all over the world.Janethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07413787362860014295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1438079864390886446.post-52167617312663929142017-05-15T06:55:27.824-07:002017-05-15T06:55:27.824-07:00I always read the blogs that I subscribe to. It was confusing and I felt I didn't have total control over it like I do my blog. People can put stuff on your Facebook wall but they can't mess with your blog. It was too much "noise" for me and a time-waster. I want to live life, go on hikes, play with my grandchildren, be fully present in the company of others, not have my eyes glued to a device and miss out on what's going on around me. I'm sad that so many don't blog anymore but I will keep blogging, even if just for me, because I love it. :-) I guess I like the 19th century better than the 21st. :-){Geo}Hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08827696918428826679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1438079864390886446.post-79964479116837567862017-05-14T13:26:46.402-07:002017-05-14T13:26:46.402-07:00Facebook just confuses me so although i have pages...Facebook just confuses me so although i have pages there I dont check them. I "like" lots of fellow quilters, old friends, and there are several who have moved to Facebook and aren't available on blogs. It is a nice way to network - remember birthdays, etc. It is hard to go back to older posts and maybe remember where you saw something or who said what, as you noticed. So....I do have a FB account, but I've never posted on it....I just lurk, and get to see the pics my family posts! It seems the 40 and younger crowd lives by FB....it's their only way of communicating! We actually had family post birth announcements ONLY on FB! If we hadn't caught the posting by chance...we would never have known the child excisted! Sheesh! I think I'm so disgusted by that trend, that I refuse to get involved in it. Same with all the other social media! But I love blogging! I really enjoy the blogs for all the stories behind the quilts. It's the details and the history that I really want to read about. And also the foodie blogs! We do have Twitter, which is fast and easy to use, plus Pinterest for posting inspirational quilt photos that we want to save for future reference.
We were finding that we were spending all our time on social media, which greatly limited the time available for actually sewing quilts. One of our New Year's resolutions for 2017 was to spending more time off line and more time finishing our works-in-progress. So far, that's worked out pretty well. But, we do love to drop in on our favorites blogs, like yours, and see all the pretty things that other quilters are doing. I only began quilting a year ago and am not able to get to many classes and such because I have huge chemical sensitivities (frangrances, etc.). Reading blogs has helped me learn a great deal but it also makes me feel connected in a bit more personal way. Having said that it was getting to take up too much time so I have cut it back somewhat. Now that I know a tiny bit more about what I'm doing I'm more selective. I try to think of internet as a tool that I can use in whatever ways benefit me or suit my time frames.
