I don't follow basketball, but there is a lot of madness happening in my sewing room!
For years I carried a box full of hexies wherever I went. I would work on them whenever I had a free moment (lull in conversation, boring movie, extra long traffic light😅). When I get enough together, I make something. So, early this month I counted them up and decided that I had enough to start something new. I took 134 of them and appliqued them to a 5" square. Then I took my little worn out 6" ruler and taped a hexie cutout to it (for accuracy of layout) and trimmed them down to 4 1/2". This is what I came up with. Not sure where that center panel came from, but needless to say it has been lying around for quite a while. There only a few repeat fabrics (just enough to make it fun for the kids to find them!) so there are well over 300 different fabrics in this one. You will never get bored with this one on your lap!
Charlotte's idea of just stitching an old pair of jeans with pockets to a background was sensational!
And, I'm plodding along in this year's sewalong #Fancyfourpatchchallenge with Taryn Falkner on Instagram @Reproquiltlover. I've chosen to make mine with c1890 repros that I call neons. Lovely black backgrounds with wild neon colors.

Fascinting hexie quilt. I love your use of neons. We don't see those colors often enough.
ReplyDeletelove all those pretty hexies and the repro blocks too...you have had a busy winter!
ReplyDeleteThe border you added to the round robin is perfect, it really softens those squares.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I made a fidget quilt and it WAS fun finding the bits that I used. Mine was a long panel that could be hung on a wall, wheelchair accessible.
That's certainly a well-used ruler! The hexies -- especially fussy-cut -- are becoming a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe Hexie quilt is fabulous! All from little found moments here and there. Incredible!
ReplyDeleteThe fidget quilts are such a good idea. Love the one from jeans.
Oh, those neons with the yellow setting fabrics are so striking. I guess Taryn didn't post this SAL on her blog--or maybe I just missed the post. I just know I haven't seen this one.
Your little appliqued touches on the round robin quilt look like you lifted the whole thing by giving it wings. Just little dabs of magic, Wendy. It really is a beautiful look!
Love the hexagon quilt. I am not an hexagon lover, but like this variation very much! Great idea to make quilts for people suffering from dementia.
ReplyDeleteI love all your March Madness projects! The hexies are beautiful with so many fabrics, the neon blocks are stunning and your round robin addition is perfect! What a productive month! I think you are on a roll. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSuch special projects. Thanks for sharing.
