New England Quilt Museum - AQSG Study Quilts

Cyndi (Busy Thimble) and I went to the New England Quilt Museum last week to see their latest exhibits. We like to take a trip down whenever exhibits change. It is a wonderful museum and well worth the trip! Please check out Cynid's blog (here) to see some of the "Summer Celebration" of New England guild quilts. It was a fantastic display and I saw many quilts from friends throughout New England.

We went specifically to see the AQSG Civil War study quilts. This one is the work of Dawn Cook Ronningen (Collector With a Needle) and it was fantastic! Very true to the original. It was definitely one of my favorites. Here are a few more views of the ones in the classroom.

Unfortunately the ones I took in the Nancy L. Donahue gallery didn't come out, but they are in the publication from AQSG. The book is great but it was wonderful to see them all in person.

They are up until October 31 so I hope you all get a chance to see them. I know I have mentioned it before, but if you are at all interested in quilt history you should become a member of the American Quilt Study Group. It is amazing how much this organization has done for quilt study over the past 35 years. I am proud to have served on the board with some exceptional quilt scholars. The annual seminar will be in Indiana this year, in Arizona in 2016 and will be coming to NH in 2017. I can't wait!

Enjoy your day!

  6. So glad you were able to go! All the better with stitching friends. I appreciate the pictures. I am making a little journal to keep with my quilt when it returns home. It traveled, I didn't....very fun!
