The Calm "After" the Storm

As if the whirlwind week I had just after the AQSG seminar wasn’t enough, we proceeded to have a storm which knocked us into the dark for days. My husband became the Great White Knight as he wheeled a large generator around the neighborhood to “charge” refrigerators and coffee makers and other essential appliances. Being without power was no problem, but being “unplugged” for so long, made me realize just how much time I do spend on the internet!

I wasted no time rigging up my “neck light” so as not to miss a single stitch. I managed to get some applique time in on my Noah and Matilda blocks.

And, during daylight hours I laid them all out and made the final decisions for the background fabrics.

I also made a little progress on my “ongoing” hexies. It was nice to have a mindless project that didn’t require a lot of concentration!

I feel very fortunate as some Mainer’s are still without power. I wish you all happy stitching day!

  1. I hate loosing power for more than a day so feel the pain you had! As quilters as long as we have a battery operated light we seem to manage

  3. That is so good of your hubby to rescue neighbors with his generator.
You certainly did not sit idle in the dark. :)
I love the way you have your hexie flowers stored at the ready in that container. Very smart!

  4. I'm not surprised that Gordon went house to house to take care of your neighbors. He's so perfect for the White Knight. So sorry that you lost power for so long. ICK. Didn't you miss your Bernina??
But I'm also not surprised at how productive you were notwithstanding you didn't have power.
    Nice job on the hexies!!

  5. We were out of power for a couple of hours and it was frustrating. I can't imagine going for days without power. Great that you had a generator, and how wonderful that you were generous to share with the neighbors.

  6. We're so use to the lights coming on when we flick the switch and connect in an instant to friends around the world. You kept sewing though. N&M blocks are looking good. I can't remember what you're doing with the hexies? But I like what you're creating.

  7. Looks like you made it through the storm :) It was the perfect time to hunker down and sew. N & M is moving right along and your little hexies are so sweet. Would you believe I'm making some too?

  8. Glad your power is back - it's a pain to be without it, but in the long run we're blessed to have electricity at the flip of a switch! Having hand work prepped and ready for those non-electric days is a good thing!

  9. I can just imagine your determination to get some stitching in regardless! I'm glad your husband was able to help out. Makes me wish we had a generator too for those unpredictable weather days!

  11. I have been hearing about the storm knocking out power for so many. You made the best of the situation. We whined being without power during the last hurricane.....mostly because of no air-conditioning and so muggy and hot.....but it was only 18 hours without. Thankful that the food in the fridge stayed cold enough during that time. So much harder for people in your part of the country without power for so long.
