Yup, I did it again! This time, I waited until it was completely stitched together before I realized my mistake. I wanted all of the birds in the center of the blocks to be different. Some are the same, just a different colorway. But this one was exactly the same and it was the very last block I made! (Insert very frustrated face here).
All I could think of after my
discovery was the song from the animated Rudolph from the ‘60’s. “Why am I such
a misfit, I am not just a nitwit, you can’t fire me, I quit…”
Your quilt is so beautiful. No one but you would find the identical blocks. I love your quilt. Hugs
ReplyDeleteYou are too sweet! I'm happy I made the decision to do it now rather than suffer for years - wink!
DeleteLOL...you are way too hard on yourself...wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out...but you will be happy when fixed i know...lovely quilt....
ReplyDeleteAs always Grace, you are too kind!
DeleteYou are so funny! I would never consider you a misfit or one of your blocks either. I'm glad you caught the duplicate now instead of years down the line.
ReplyDeleteOh, golly gosh! Well, at least with your potholder method you can pop out the one square and add another. 🤩 That block, like you said, will be the starter for another awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteYup! I already have a thought for the misfit block! Thanks Kyle.
DeleteOh no! How frustrating for you. Hope a lovely new birdie flys your way soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your bird quilt...just so lovely in every way! I am sorry about that last block...it is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCould you appliqué something onto the bird to make it different? ;). In any case it's shaping up to be yet another beautiful Wendy original!
ReplyDeleteWell, yes that would have been a normal person's response to the problem, but I like to complicate matters. Wink!
DeleteWhoops!!! Hoping a new bird arrives soon, Wendy.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think we are too hard on ourselves when it comes to our quilts. I doubt I would have ever noticed the birds were the same. This quilt is so lovely! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand your frustration! Sometimes the "errors" are right in front of us, but we don't see them...until later. You will smile whenever you look at the "new" bird block in your finished quilt! BTW, the quilt is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angie!
DeleteHonestly, if you hadn't pointed it out I don't think anyone but you would have noticed. I know I wouldn't if I looked all day. It's a gorgeous quilt
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind, but it would have bothered me for years to come. Might as well fix it now while it is still fresh.
DeleteOh, Wendy, this is stunning. So you have a pair of identical twins in this quilt. No one plans things that way, but it happens. LOL
ReplyDeleteI totally get why you have to switch it out. Perfectionism is a blessing and a curse. Luckily your construction method makes the change more doable than if it had been a traditional quilt where you would have had to unpick all the applique to replace it (and pray all along that you didn't tear up your background fabric).
I wish I had a bird to send flying your way, but I know you already have the ones I have.
Like you could ever be a misfit!!!
I thought about just putting a new bird, but I couldn't find any that fit. Luckily no deadline on this thing!
DeleteI get it, Wendy! I probably would have done the same thing. You are so creative and your quilt is one-of-a-kind! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am quite sure you would have replaced it. It might not bother me now, but down the road I would have regretted not changing it.
DeleteOh Poop - I hate when that happens and it happens frequently with me. I always say, if it really bothers you, take it out. Sorry Friend.
ReplyDeleteI loved your Rudolf quotes :)
Indeed! Rudolph really knew his stuff!
DeleteOh bugger Wendy... Bit of reverse stitching to take that one out....
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so beautiful - another quilt to add to my to-make list. I think identical twins would have been fine. I hope you find another bird that works well as a replacement.
