One door closes....

And another one bursts open!

I'm sure you are all sick of seeing this quilt by now, but it does go with my title story. I received an e-mail from AQS that my quilt was not accepted into the Syracuse show. Now I always tell people that you have to have a very thick skin if you want to enter shows and take the good with the bad. Long story short, the very next day, I got an e-mail from a Blogging friend (Mayleen at Q is for Quilt ) who said she saw my quilt in the latest "Quiltmania" . Wow!! This is my all time favorite magazine. I don't subscribe because I get it from my favorite quilt shop, Busy Thimble, and I will be picking it up as soon as I can!!

No Bake Applique

So... you just never know. Quilt judging is very subjective. I used to feel I couldn't enter my quilts in shows that were predominantly machine made or that featured "modern" quilts. But, I truly feel that quilts are quilts and that when I go to a show, I want to see all of them! I want to know what other quilters are doing. I know I will always be hopelessly traditional and my goal in my quilting life is to keep that tradition alive. But, as with everything in life, there is room for the old and the new and we can learn from both. So, go enter a quilt!

And speaking of that, Audrey from Quilty Folk has entered her Quarter Circles in Amy's Spring Blogging Festival and I highly encourage you to check it out and vote your choice. (hint, hint, I chose Audrey's. I just love it!)

  1. Very exciting about your quilt being in Quiltmania! Wowsers, how fun! Very sweet to mention my quilt for the Bloggers Festival. I love joining in, but honestly never have any expectation of winning.:) I'm trying to push myself out of my comfort zone a little this year and entering a few contests/shows. Like you said, there's room for all types and always something to learn.

    1. Oh don't get me wrong, it's not the fault of AQS, in fact this quilt was in Des Moines. I just entered it in the wrong one I think. Lancaster and Des Moines lean more toward traditional quilts so I need to focus on those. Thanks for your kind comments and I can't wait to see the whole "Auntie Green"!

  3. I agree with Hilda, besides being well done, I agree it should make it just for its unique style. I love traditonal quilts best too!

    1. Thanks Carla, I truly love this quilt and as ingenuous as it sounds I really don't care where it gets accepted as long as a lot of people get to see it and enjoy it. I have had so much interest in teaching this potholder method and have lots of fun doing classes!

  5. Wendy - Early today, I started writing a blog post about the arrival of the latest QUILTmania magazine, but hadn't looked through it yet.
This afternoon when I finally sat down with it, it opened right to your 'NO BAKE APPLIQUE' quilt!!! It is just gorgeous! Your work is so deserving! And I know how you feel about entering - a quilt is a quilt is a quilt... it's the subjective judging that throws in the scissors. :)
So, I finished my blog post by sharing your great quilt:

    1. Oh you are so sweet! I think I had more fun making this quilt than any of the other 300 or so quilts I have made! If I could figure out how to do a PDF I will try to offer some of the patterns on my Blog for free. I really want to encourage others about this fun method. I would love some close ups of the fabulous ones you have done.

  6. I know how you feel about not being accepted as I got a rejection email for the Paducah show but my quilt was accepted for the NY show...but you got a better deal, being in the Quiltmania magazine. That's a big win win in my book, Congrats and also on your win at RD 2 CA show.. Keep entering your beautiful quilts.

    1. Julee, I hope I didn't sound like sour grapes , as I have been honored to be in AQS shows. This was just the luck of the draw. And I agree that I am happier with my Quiltmania "win".

  13. This is a beautiful quilt. Are there patterns in the magazine? I think you can take a word document and save as pdf to make it a pdf. You can also buy special Adobe software.

  14. Another element to consider is how Ser Davos will react in Game of Thrones season 5 episode 10 when he gets word that Stannis has sacrificed Shireen. He loves Shireen, even giving her a carved stag before he left. Despite how loyal he is to Stannis there is no chance that he will continue to serve him now that he has burned Shireen. Maybe Davos’ presence on the Wall might help save Jon Snow from his men. Alternatively Davos could have a role to play in the battle of Winterfell. Maybe he decides that Stannis doesn’t deserve to be king of the Seven Kingdoms and does something to prevent his victory. That would be an interesting twist in Davos’ story arc.
