We had a lovely weekend at
the Black Swan Inn in Tilton, NH over the weekend. I highly recommend it. Our
room had a lovely fireplace.
The owners, Trish and John were extremely
welcoming and the food was delicious.
And, of course those of you
in the Northeast know that just a few miles down the road in Center Harbor,
there is a quaint little (wink) quilt shop called Keepsake Quilting. Believe it or not, this was all I purchased
in this giant shop!
There are two reasons for
this. 1) I am planning on visiting Cyndi at the Busy Thimble this coming
weekend and 2) I found something at an antique store that just had to come home
with me.
This wonderful tin display
case that was actually still full of the dyes that they were selling. The
backside is in better shape than the front, but it is in overall remarkable
condition. I think I might want to keep thread in it as I’m sure the dyes are
toxic.
Your trip sounds lovely. So cosy to have a fire in your room. Well done coming up with a solution to your lighting problem. Those early hours are such great stitching time.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place for a retreat--oh, with a fireplace. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI can't hand stitch without my Ottlite, either--or something close to it.
Like you, I would spend more money at Cyndi's than at Keepsake, though it was fun to drop in on Keepsake now and then when my daughter lived 10 minutes away.
What a wonderful find at the antique store!
What a wonderful weekend!! You showed GREAT restraint in Keepsake. It's really quite remarkable!!
ReplyDeleteThe Black Swan Inn looks like a wonderful getaway! I'm so envious of your awesome find--what a fun piece!

ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will find some wonderful fabrics at Busy Thimble !! ah ah !
Looks like you found a beautiful place for a weekend Getaway. Such a fabulous Treasure Find too.
ReplyDeleteThat Dye box looks awesome!
Your hotel looks darling! I did smile about your torch, we once rented a cottage and I made my DH move all the furniture round so I could position the lamp behind a chair which I dragged to the window for daytime sewing!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect place to spend a weekend. You really showed restraint at Keepsake Quilting! I'd love to visit that shop some day. Your Putnam Dyes tin will make a perfect thread holder. Great find!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely inn.
ReplyDeleteYour new cabinet is absolutely fabulous. wow what a neat piece to use for sewing thread storage.

ReplyDeleteJealous that you get to go to Cyndi's...maybe I can have you do a little shopping for me??? Let's talk!! When are you going???
ps: that tin is fabulous, as are the fabrics you snagged at Keepsake Quilting. What restraint!
xxxs,
What a delightful stay you had - I'm envious that you found such a wonderful little place! And that DYE CABINET! I have that on my list of 'want to find' someday. But I hope you don't throw the dyes away, if you're willing to send them to me I'd be willing to pay postage. Perfect for dyeing the wool I use in my hooked rugs!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful place to stay, Wendy. Fancy being able to go to Keepsake Quilting! It's one of the first US shops I found out about when I started quilting - it must be amazing to visit. Love the dye container and imagine threads will look great in it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an interesting place to stay. A few years ago, my SIL traded a week at a timeshare she has for a timeshare up in that area. The Summitt.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to get away. And I think you did very well at KQ! Love those greens -- non-Christmas greens can be hard to find. Great trip!
ReplyDeleteYout weekend getaway inn looks fabulous. What a lovely place to spend time together with some shopping included.

ReplyDeleteHI Wendy, thank you for explaining your "pot holder" method for bringing the backing around to the front. That saves so much time ! The red, white, and blue Log Cabin looks lovely, and the veteran who receives it will be thrilled. Blessings and warm wishes, from Marina and Daryl Lynn
ReplyDeleteYou may not have purchased much, but your choices sure are pretty!
