Quiltfolk does it again!

I received my Quiltfolk issue #4 and read it cover to cover in two short nights. I just couldn’t put it down. This issue covers East Tennessee and features 3 of my favorite quilt people; the historian extraordinaire, Merikay Waldvogel;
quilt historian, quiltmaker and all around wonderful lady, Bets Ramsey;
and my quilt idol Linda Roy.

I was lucky to have met Merikay and Bets in the mid 80’s in my early days of AQSG. They were both so helpful to me as a newbie in the organization.

I have not yet met Linda Roy, but I hope to remedy this someday soon. I have adored her quilts for many years.

The entire magazine is well written and filled with glorious images of quilts and people.

I have heard many comments about how “pricey” it is to subscribe. I would describe them as high quality paperback books which puts the cost in perspective. Any way you look at it, I’m pretty sure you will not be disappointed.

Check it out! Quiltfolk

  1. I subscribe too - I have read the first 2 issues cover to cover, got the 3rd part way done but then got extremely busy with a sewing room redo the past I don't know how many months and now need to finish #3 and have #4 waiting for me - not a bad thing to have waiting for you - the writing is really great and the photos! wow - I agree worth the price!

  2. Someone gifted me the first issue and although I like it, it is too expensive to purchase and be read in a day. I passed my copy along to another quilter as I wouldn't read it again. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Love this new magazine, and like a coffee table book, I draw inspiration from it each time I pick it up and flip through.

  9. It was very disappointing to see the quilt code included in the most recent edition of Quiltfolk magazine. On Page 88, the Museum Director of the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum in Athens raises the subject and talks about the importance of quilts in the history of slavery and goes on about quilts hung on a clothesline to tell escaped slaves which direction to flee, or whether they need to hide out. She is quoted "While its hard to know for sure, it's a theory that adds to the importance of the role that quilts play in the South's history". So sad this magazine and the Museum Director gives further credence to this myth.

  10. Thanks for the pointer to this wonderful magazine! I subscribed as soon as you blogged about it earlier this year. I have only skimmed the most recent issue. Although the content looks amazing, I'm saving it for an upcoming business trip.

  12. This sounds like such a good magazine. Some day I will definitely treat myself, but this year I've had to pare down, cut out all my subscriptions. Oh well. If it's that good a publication, it will still be around when our finances recover!
