This is just a teaser and
another invitation to join our “Gwennie Inspired Medallion Quilt-a-long”. When
Cynthia (Wabi-Sabi Quilts) and Lori (Humble Quilts) asked me to be a part of
this I immediately thought back to all of the wonderful quilts Gwen has made
over the years. I have never had the good fortune to meet Gwen in person, but I
know we are kindred spirits. I have followed her since the early 1980’s when
she wrote a monthly article in Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilt (oh, how I miss
that magazine!).
I have almost all of Gwen’s
books. I think she is best known for her “Liberated Quilts”.
But, one of my favorites is not
as well known. I was so enamored of her little fabric books, that I made dozens
for all my little (and a few big ones too) friends. I have only 3 left. Hmmm, maybe it is time to make a
few more!
I have finished my basket
block (I think). So, stay tuned for the big “reveal”.
And why not join in the fun!
I have finished my block, too -- it is oversize and rather plain but I'm waiting to see what comes next! (I need to go look for that little book you shared)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it!
DeleteOh oh..at this time, you already made potholders !!
ReplyDeleteI have finished too my block and I can't wait to admire yours and the others !
I'm so glad you are joining in. I can't wait to see yours!
Delete"Quilting it your way" really says it all doesn't it. I love the little quiet books!!
ReplyDeleteGwen came to Maine probably 20 years ago and I think the class was in Bath! She taught liberated houses and log cabin blocks....could have sworn you were there! Maybe it was Nena?
ReplyDeleteI have never met Gwen, nor do I have her books, but I certainly have learned a lot about her from other bloggers like yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how many different prominent quilters have influenced each of us along our journey and made an impact in the quilting world.
ReplyDeleteGwen has been such a great inspiration to so many! Can't wait to see your Basket block :)
ReplyDeletei have a few lady's circle mags and saw her articles...plus i have her and joe cunningham's book on little quilts...
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful little books! I can't wait to see your revealed basket block :0)
ReplyDeleteMany moons ago, I purchased a bunch of used copies of the Lady's Circle magazine and while recuperating from surgery, read them all a couple times. I remember enjoying reading her columns.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the old magazine articles!
ReplyDeleteToday I'm wishing you safe travels to Hartford; it appears that you already are enjoying pretty perfect weather!
ReplyDeleteSo sad you never met her in person. she is such a warm and generous teacher. I always give her all the credit for setting me on my quilting path of original work.
ReplyDeleteShe told me she has quilts on exhibit at vermont this year - I'm so glad to be going so I can see them (even though I probably already have) Me and my buddies in Illinois made some of those fabric books. I wonder where they are now? must look around for them :)
The fabric books are adorable!
ReplyDeleteYour fabric books are so inspiring. I have most books too. But not this one. Need to find a copy. Looks fun!
