Honorable Mention at AQS Des Moines

I couldn't believe it! I got a call last night saying my "No Bake Applique" had won honorable mention at AQS show in Des Moines. I have won other awards at AQS shows but no one seems to understand the pot holder concept so I am hopeful that we may start a new trend here. This isn't a great photo but thought you might like to see the back of this as it is made up of 77 different chintz fabrics. As with some of my other pot holder quilts, I like the back almost as much as the front.

and another close up

Hope I can inspire you to try this intriguing method!

  4. What a BEAUTY!!!! Congratulations! And how did you manage to get that many chintzes? I've been collecting them for a while, and don't have half that many I'd guess. I would LOVE to see this quilt in person!
We seem to be kindred spirits, as over the last few years I've also caught the Pot Holder or Hot Pad style of doing quilts. I've taught others the same method [at a reproduction fabric only shop that's now closed :( ], referencing the Weeks book and also with my own pattern. It's such a wonderful way to do a quilt a little at a time I think. I'm in the Dear Jane group that retreats a couple of times a year in Shipshewana, Indiana, and also planning my Dear Jane as a Pot Holder/Hot Pad quilt!!!
Congrats again!, and I'm now following your blog!

    1. Oh my, I think we ARE kindred spirits! I made my first pot holder quilt in the 1980's, but now I am experimenting in different sizes and patterns. I had fun with the one with scalloped borders. I am almost half way through the Dear Jane blocks and at times want to thank Pam Weeks for starting the challenge and at times want to scream at her (all in good fun of course!). She is such an inspiration and I got to see her recent pot holder finish last week at the New England Quilt Museum - superb! Keep up the good work!

    2. I love all of the pot holder quilts you are sharing! And already half way through your Dear Jane blocks??!! WOW! You are so lucky to live close to a great reproduction shop! I sure miss my local Good Wives and Co. shop. :(
I visited the NEQM a couple of years ago - what a great source of inspiriation! And, for you to have such inspiration in your mentor, Pam! I can wait to see her latest P.H.finish - hopefully somewhere online, and SOON! Thanks for sharing all of your great finishes here. I'm glad those friends of yours got you blogging! Happy Stitching!

    1. Chintz prints are larger scale prints most commonly reproduced from early furnishing fabrics. I have quite a large collection thanks to the Busy Thimble in Litchfield Maine!
