Noah and Matilda go to Lancaster

Welcome to the “overthinker’s club”! After choosing the perfect fabric for the border of my second Noah andMatilda quilt at Busy Thimble, I came home and dug out a few more – “just in case”. Of course, I went right back to my original choice. Do you do that too?

I have already started to hand quilt it, so if you preferred one of the other choices for the border – please don’t let me know! Wink!

I like to split my wool batts in half for a lower loft. I am using my preferred “Quilters Dream” for this one. It is easy to do in the potholder method as the pieces are so much smaller. This one was a bear. I ended up with a much thicker batt than I would normally use. I have found that battings do vary even from the same company. Some are very easy to split into even layers and others present a challenge. This one just wanted to be “fat”! The silver lining is that I now have lots of “shreds” for stuffing.

You can see lots of Noah andMatilda variations on the Facebook page (here). Such creativity!!

You can get the pattern for this fabulous quilt from Dawn (Collector with a Needle). I had so much fun with the first one I had to do it again!

  1. Any of those lush fabrics would have been great for the border but I think the one you chose is perfect! Love that Lancaster blue! I've only used Quilters Dream for hand quilting but I think I'd like to try a wool batt one of these days.

  3. Beautiful, Wendy. Yes I'd be second guessing myself all over the place about those border choices! But i agree, the one you picked is perfect.
Batting - did you use Quilters Dream"Request" ? I think that is their thinnest. Mountain Mist Cream Rose is also really thin.

  4. So many pretty options for the border. The blue background is wonderful, and so unexpected. I love it!
    Beautiful hand quilting, too.
I would never get this beautiful quilt made even once, and here you are on round II!

  5. Any of those gorgeous reds would have been lovely, but I think the one you chose is best. And, don't we all get out all the bins and rummage through to hopefully find the perfect backing fabric(s)? The blue background for your blocks is so strikingly beautiful and makes your quilt truly unique. I love it!

  6. I think I have only ever had one of those red prints you were considering for the border. You chose well with the one you used.

  7. I agree with everyone else's comments--any of those reds would have worked. I have to say that the blue is ELECTRIC! I love it. And I cannot believe you made two! VERY impressive.

  10. Oh yes--I'm always searching for a better fabric and end up right where I started. It's a big time waster, but fun to revisit the fabric buried in tubs--lol! N & H is beautiful and I am in love with that blue background1

  11. I love the lapis blue (at least on my computer) you chose for the background. You have taught me to be braver in my color choice. The cheddar compliments perfectly. So I should give my color wheel another look. I love the red, pearl & green color combination, but have added a touch of gray into my current project. Oh, I love your border choice!!

  15. Borders are always a game changer - and you would think I have learned by now that never buying enough yardage gets me in a pickle every time. Your choice is so striking and that blue is stunning for a background! Enjoy the moments of handquilting - it is always a special time for the quilter to “talk” with her quilt and stitch thoughts and stories into it.
