End of Year Giveaway

In scrolling through my postings for 2019 I noticed I neglected to include this one. The American QuiltStudy Group hosts a biennial “quilt Study” which is revealed at the annual seminar in the Fall. You can read about it and view many of the past participant’s creations on the AQSG website (here). I participated in 2012 when the theme was “The Colonial Revival”. That book is still available at a good price on Amazon (here).

In 2018 the theme was “200 years of Solid Color Quilts” and my friend Laurie and I decided to give it a shot. For the inspiration quilt we chose a fabulous early (pre-1840) wool quilt with the typical Maine shape (to accommodate the 4-poster bed) from the collection of the Maine State Museum where Laurie is “Chief Curator of History and Decorative Arts”. Laurie had reproduced this quilt (her first quilt in fact!) before as a part of an exhibition that my friend Cyndi (Busy Thimble) and I had curated a few years ago. It is .

One of the requirements of the quilt study is that the quilt be made expressly for the study and that it not be shown in public before the reveal at seminar. So, Laurie suggested that we create it again as a team. I made the quilt using Laurie’s quilting design from her first project and Laurie did all the research and writing (her specialty!). We had a lot of fun and it was fun to see it finally in print.

I think I forgot to blog about it because I was so happy to see fellow bloggers post about their quilts – Barb’s (Fun with Barb) was a really fun interpretation of her inspiration quilt.
And Cynthia’s (Wabi-Sabi Quilts) quilt was fabulous and I was so excited to see it on the cover!
Or maybe I forgot to post it because they spelled my name wrong (it is "Caton" not "Canton") - nah, I'm not that petty, besides this happens a lot.

So… long story for the giveaway… but I realized I had an extra copy and thought it would make a fun end of year gift to one of my readers. Leave me a comment about your favorite quilting project this year and I will pick a lucky winner on the 31st when I post my last mini quilt for 2019.

If you are not the winner and would like a copy, you can order this one and many of the past years as well on Amazon (here)

  1. How exciting! I have been machine quilting with my walking foot! Although I love hand anything, a stroke two years ago has left me without fine motor skills in my left hand, thus the machine piecing and quilting. I'm still seeing improvement every day, but at the moment am making lemonade from lemons. The book looks fabulous! How generous of you! sharon at sharon stroud dot com

    1. Oops, just remembered I was going to add a comment about favorite quilt for 2019, that would have to be the bed size basket quilt I finally finished hand quilting early in the year. It's on my bed keeping me warm this winter, the very best thing a quilt can do! There's a photo of it on the 2015 and Later Finishes page on my blog.

  8. Looks to be a wonderful book! So exciting to have a quilt of your own in it and also see quilts made by friends. I'm always so fascinated by the interpretation studies. What a fabulous opportunity! Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite quilt project for the year would have to be finishing up the 'I just want to make beautiful things even if nobody cares' quilt. So much fun getting that one done and be able to use it on my bed!:)

  11. What lovely quilts in that book! Thanks for offering a copy as a giveaway. My favorite project of 2019 was rainbow inspired Pecking Order quilt, initially for me. That was until DS1's friend fell in love with it! Thus, MY quilt became his graduation gift.

  12. Your quilt in the book is lovely! And I'm smitten with the Maine corners! My favorite project this year was selecting the tops to take to Florida to quilt up! I chose 6; 4 for machine quilting, and 2 for hand quilting. It was so much fun going through all the tops and deciding which ones will get finished! Then I made the backs (some were already done!), bindings, and sized up the battings, and compression packed them all to fit in the car! I'm pretty excited to have these to work on until May!

Wishing you a very healthy and happy New Year!

  14. It sounds like yoy really enjoy the quilt study group. I have always admired your quilts and it is really nice to see your quilts being published! I make mostly small quilts and it is difficult to choose a favorite. Maybe the table topper that was out of my comfort zone, but I loved the finished project, or the simple little quilt I made because I bought some border fabric that I loved. Thank you for sharing the book with us. I would love to win it.

  15. The book would be so I interesting! Currently I am working with solids making a medallion style pineapple quilt. The center is 9 pineapple blocks, then a black border, next smallish triangles with black & assorted colors. Next border will be paper pieced hummingbird blocks, with smaller pineapple blocks for final border. I'm getting excited about quilting this, hopefully before summer!

  17. My favorite project this year is a Lucy Boston made with Kaffe and Tula brights. It's totally out of my usual fabric range. It all started at the Maine Quilts show at a vendor booth! I'm busy sewing the blocks together now and starting to think about quilting.

  19. Oh, what fun to see three blogger friends in this book! I would love to win your extra. I have a couple of the books from other years.
A favorite project this year? Though not finished, getting all of my rows made for the Circa 1880 quilt was huge for me. Now if I could just get them sewn together and quilt the thing! :)

  22. I’m here to testify about what Dr Godwin did for me. I have been suffering from (GENITAL HERPES VIRUS) disease for the past 4 years and had constant pain and inching, especially in my private part. During the first year, I had faith in God that i would be cured someday. This disease started circulating all over my body and I have been taking treatment from my doctor, few weeks ago I came across a testimony of Rose Smith on the internet testifying about a Man called Dr Godwin on how he cured her from 7 years HSV 2. And she also gave the email address of this man, advise anybody to contact him for help on any kind of diseases that he would be of help, so I emailed him telling him about my (HSV 2) he told me not to worry that I was going to be cured!! Well, I never doubted him I have faith he can cure me too,, Dr Godwin prepared and sent me Healing Oil, Soap, roots and herbs which I took. In the first one week, I started experiencing changes all over me, after four weeks of using his Roots/ Herbs, Oil and Soap, I was totally cured. no more inching , pain on me anymore as Dr Godwin assured me. After some time I went to my doctor to do another test behold the result came out negative. So friends my advise is if you have such disease or know anyone who suffers from it or any other disease like HPV, HBV, HIV, ALS, HBP, CANCER etc. you can contact Dr.godwin for help via email drgodwinsolutionhome@gmail.com whatsapp +2348054615060
