Corinne and Cecile's Quilt-a-long

My house quilt for Corinne and Cecile's 2023 quilt-a-long is going to be made entirely from vintage feedsacks.

House #1

I'm determined to NOT cut into a whole sack, so I've been knee deep in scraps, pulling from boxes and drawers and other hiding places.

It is difficult to find solid feedsacks these days, but I was able to finish 16 backgrounds (the minimum number of blocks is 16) for my upcoming houses.

I am making them in the potholder method (really??) and have thoroughly enjoyed pawing through my scraps. They are really building themselves with these wonderful, whimsical feedsack fabrics. As usual, the creativity I have seen on their Facebook page is remarkable. Hope you get a chance to visit them all!

  1. The first word that came to mind was "storybook".

    1. Perfect! I love that word! I was going to call it "Sack Shacks" but I may have to rethink that.

  3. Your little house is so charming, reminds me of a hobbit house. There's a story behind these houses I think, but how you will connect the quilt to a food theme like so many of your previous quilts is still a mystery 😉 Have fun!

    1. You are so right, it is a mystery even to me. I've been struggling with a name that relates to food. Maybe by the next block it will come to me!

  5. Looks like you are looking forward to spring, not a snowy field in sight. Looking forward to more adorable houses.

    1. Thanks Beth, I am looking forward to Spring, but I do like the white stuff as long as there is no ice on top!

  6. Adorable little cottage. As far as a food title for your little quilt - it could be homemade bread or any food that goes with the word homemade. I wanted to finally join one of Cecille's SAL this year but I made red & white house quilt (all year) last year and just finished quilting the quilt in December. My enthusiasm to make more houses just wasn't there. Maybe next year. . . I look forward to seeing your darling houses as you continue to sew.

  7. Oh, that is so very sweet, Wendy! And the backgrounds you are creating are wonderful. Love the fairy tale cottage look of the house. And I am also curious as to how you will tie in the food theme. Flour sacks, baking--there has to be a link in there somehow!
